iLoveMakonnen Talent Bio:
Makonnen Sheran was born on June 13th, 1989, and is better known by his stage name iLoveMakonnen. He is an American hip hop recording artist who was officially born in Los Angeles, California, but moved to the widely recognized music hub of Atlanta, Georgia at thirteen years old. His last name is shared with the last royal family of Ehtiopia, though he has no Ethiopian connections. His ethic background is very broad, including African, Indian, Irish, Belgian, German, and Chinese. Makonnen’s mother was a beautician and spent over 30 years working in the beauty industry. His early attempts at music were a mix of pop, rock, and hip hop. During his high school years, Makonnen found himself inspired by local Atlanta rappers like Young Jeezy and Gucci Mane, who led him to try his hand at a similar type career. In 2008 and 2008, he gained attention through MySpace by making songs on his personal computer and uploading them to the very popular social media website. Myspace created a platform for him to connect with other rising muscians like Adele, he also started a blog where he posted his personal interviews with other musicians such as Lil’ B and Miguel. In early 2010 the artist enrolled in cosmetology school and joined a musical group called Phantom Posse, but both ventures were not long lasting. Makonnen met the famous Atlanta based producer Mike Will Made It in January 2012 but their professional relationship didn’t last long, due to the impossibly busy schedule of the popular producer, fortunately they reconnected in March 2014 and spent time in the DTP studios. He recorded the song “Don’t Sell Molly No More” with Sonny Digital, a track responsible for the launch of his career, gaining the attention of pop singer Miley Cyrus who publicized the track herself. In August 2014, rapper Drake caught wind of his track “Club Goin’ Up on a Tuesday” and reached out to Sonny Digital in hopes of remixing the song. Drake re-released the track, titling it simply “Tuesday”, and the viral reaction to the track only gained Makonnen even more media attention, solidifying his name in the music industry.
