Steve Aoki Talent Bio:
Steven Hiroyuki Aoki, better known as Steve Aoki, is an American record producer and electronic DJ. Aoki was born in 1977, in Miami, Florida. During his childhood, Steve Aoki lived with his grandparents, mother, and two older siblings; though he also has two younger siblings and three half-siblings. After graduating high school in Newport Beach, California, Steve Aoki chose to attend the University of California, Santa Barbara. In addition to acquiring two bachelor degrees, in Feminist Studies and Sociology, this is where Steve Aoki began his musical career. He began by first producing do-it-yourself records and running underground concerts out of his apartment. This location soon began to be referred to as “The Pickle Patch”. By 1996, Steve Aoki was running his own music label; Dim Mak Records. Steve Aoki released his first mix CD in 2007, labelled Pillowface & His Airplane Chronicles. It was not until 2012 that Steve Aoki released his first studio album, Wonderland, which was released under labels Dim Mak Records and Ultra Music. That same year, he released an EP; It’s the End of the World as we Know It. Then, in 2014, another studio album and EP were released. The studio album was named Neon Future I, and the EP released was A Light that Never Comes. In addition to his solo work, Steve Aoki has also worked in groups, such as with Blake Miller of the Moving Units band, together they were known as Weird Science. Other bands Aoki has been a part of include This Machine Kills, Esperanza, and The Fire Next Time. In addition to music, Steve Aoki has immersed himself into other areas, such as television and organizations. Steve Aoki has made an appearance on the CW’s superhero series Arrow, as well as featured in a Sol Republic commercial. He has also appeared in a commercial for PETA, in an anti-fur advertisement. In May 2006, he became a board member for the “Music is Revolution Foundation”, a non-profit organization that provides music education support within public schools.
