Belle and Sebastian Talent Bio:
Belle and Sebastian is an indie pop band originating in Glasgow, Scotland. The band was formed in 1996 by Stuart Murdoch and Stuart David. They have released 9 albums and are often compared to act Nick Drake. They got their name from Belle et Sebastien, a children's book written by Cecile Aubry in 1965.When Stuart and David formed the band, they were recording demos with their college professor Alan Rankine at Stow College. The demos got picked up by the college’s Music Business course. They produce and release a single each year on the college’s label, Electric Honey. The label was so impressed with the bands work, they were able to record their debut album Tigermilk. It only took 3 days for them to record and only one thousand copies were pressed on vinyl. With all the positive feedback, they decided to turn the band into a full time project. They recruited Stevie Jackson who plays the guitar and provides vocals, Isobel Campbell who plays the cello and provides vocals, Chris Geddes who plays the keyboard, and Richard Colburn who plays the drums; to complete the group.
With the success of their debut album Tigermilk, they landed a deal with Jeepsters Records in 1996. They released their second album If You’re Feeling Sinister that same year. The album was considered to be one of the 100 greatest albums between 1985 and 2005 by Spin. They went on to release EPs titled: Dogs on Wheels, Lazy Line Painter Jane, 3.. 6.. 9 Seconds of Light. In 1998 they released their third LP The Boy with the Arab Strap. It hit No.12 in the UK charts. They later released This Is Just A Modern Rock Song EP.
They have had unlimited commercial success and have released several albums and EPs on Jeepsters Records. They are currently signed to Rough Trade Records in the United Kingdom and Matador Records in the United States.
