Alvvays Talent Bio:
The Alvvays is an indie pop band originating from Toronto, Canada. The group consists of Molly Rankin, Kerri MacLellan, Alec O’Hanley, Brian Murphy, Phil MacIsaac. Molly is the daughter of John Morris Rankin of The Rankin Family. Molly and Kerri were childhood friends. They were neighbors in Cape Breton. Molly is the lead vocalist and Kerri is the keyboardist. They began playing music with Alec while in high school. Their talents drifted over to Prince Edward Island, where Brian Murphy and Phillip MacIsaac joined the band. Molly went on to release her solo EP titled “She EP” in 2010 and went on to form the band Alvvays with O’Hanley played the guitar, MacLellan who played the keyboard, Murphy who played the bass, and MacIsaac who played the drums.The band went on tour with The Pain of Being Pure at Heart and Peter Bjorn and John. They also worked on songs as they toured heavily. In 2013 they recruited fellow musician and countryman Chad VanGaalen to record at their sessions, for their self-titled debut album, at his studio called Calgary. They also worked with producers Holy Fuck’s, Graham Walsh and producer John Agnello. With their unforgettable performance at 2014’s SXSW and the Internet popularity surrounding their demo of “Adult Diversion”, caught the attention of Polyvinyl Records and landed a record deal.
Later in 2014 they released their album Alvvays and it was released by Royal Mountain Records in Canada, Polyvinyl Records in the United States, and Transgressive Records in Europe. The album hit No. 1 on the U.S. College Charts in August of 2014. It also reached No. 107 on the UK Top Albums Chart. They wemt on to release singles “Archie, Marry Me” and “Next of Kin” from their album. Later they performed at the 2014 Hillside Festival in Guelph.
