Lilly Wood And The Prick is an Israeli-French alternative band mixed with a bit of pop and some folk that creates the duo known also as Lilly Wood and the Prick. The new wave musical team was formed in 2006 and consists of Nili Hadida and Benjamin Cotto. The two met quite randomly in a Parisian Café and decided that they could collaborate well together both in writing songs and performing, thus the band was officially formed. Nili Hadida is the head vocalist of the band and was born in 1986 in Israel, but lived in England and California before locating to Paris to fully pursue a music career. Her main influences include Elliott Smith and Fiona Apple. Benjamin Cotto is the main guitarist of the band and writes much of the music. In 2008, they started with a cover of Santogold’s “L.E.S. Artistes” and the cover gain attention through social media, Myspace specifically. Their popularity on social media brought the attention of Pierre Guimard, who opened his personal studio to the band for them to expand their work. Then work they did was seen on a compilation called “Folk & Proud”, the duo jokingly came out with the EP titled “Lilly Who and the What?” that poked fun at the bands’ name. Pierre Guimard and Matthieu Tessier (the mangers to the band) released the EP on their label Choke Industry. Lilly Wood signed with another independent label called Cinq7 in 2009. The bands’ first studio album was titled “Invincible Friends” and was released in May of 2010, and caused them to be nominated for the award “revelation of the public” for the Victoires de la Musique. They began touring for the Olympia Paris in 2011. Their next album was titled “The Flight” and released in November of 2012. The bands’ single “Prayer in C” was released in June of 2014 and was originally included on their album “Invincible Friends”, the song was remixed by the German producer Robin Schulz gaining them notoriety all throughout Europe. During live performances, the duo joins with bassist and guitarist Pierre Guimard and drummer Mathias Fisch to complete their overall sound. The band had other members, in 2010 Clement Fonio was added to the band as a bass player, and in 2011 Fonio had been replaced by Mathieu Denis who was on bass and the keyboards. 2014 say the release of three singles “Long Way Back”, “Into Trouble”, and Prayer in C”, the latter of which reach number one of several different charts around the world.
