Lana Del Rey Talent Bio:
Elizabeth Woolridge Grant best known as Lana Del Rey is a singer and songwriter. Her former stage name was Lizzy Grant. Del Rey started songwriting at the age of 18 and in 2007, signed her first record deal with 5 Points Records. In 2010, she released her first digital album Lana Del Ray. She later bought herself out of her contract with 5 Points Records and signed a joint contract with Interscope, Polydor, and Stranger Records in July 2011.In 2012, she released her second studio album titled Born to Die and it debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200. It was also the fifth best-selling album of 2012. A remix of her hit single "Summertime Sadness", produced by Cedric Gervais, became her highest-charting record on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 after reaching number six in the country. She later released her third extended play Paradise that November. Three of its records were featured in her short film titled Tropico. Her third studio album Ultraviolence was released in June of 2014 and debuted as number one on the Billboard 200. In December 2014, she will headlining a tour with Courtney Love in the Summer of 2015.
Originating from Lake Placid, New York. She attendees Catholic elementary school and later was sent to Kent, a boarding school in Connecticut. She was exposed to music by her teacher, Gene Campbell. She later moved to Long Island and worked as a waitress. At age 18 her uncle taught her how to play the guitar. She bang performing and doing shows at nightclubs. She never planned on doing music seriously.
Del Rey’s first performance in 2006 for the Williamsburg Live Songwriting Competition, is where she met Van Wilson, an A&R rep for 5 Points Records. It was an independent label owned by David Nichtern. She the signed a record contract and began working with producer David Kahne. She released her first three-track EP titled Kill Kill in 2008. In 2010 she released her self titled album titled Lana Del Ray. Del Rey was featured by Mando Diao in their MTV Unplugged concert at Union Film-Studios in Berlin later that year. In 2011 she signed a joint deal with Interscope Records and Polydor to work I. Her album titled Born to Die.
Del Rey's music has been noted for its cinematic sound and its references to various aspects of pop culture, particularly that of the 1950s and 1960s Americana. The singer has described herself as a "gangsta Nancy Sinatra". Musically, she draws influence from what she deems to be the masters of each genre, including Elvis Presley, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Nirvana, Eminem, Bruce Springsteen, and Britney Spears, as well as from poetry and film.
