Magic Johnson Talent Bio:
Earvin Magic Johnson Jr started his journey from Lansing, Michigan born in August of 1959. Magic won Basketball Championship Titles with the "all white" Everett High School his senior year. In college he went to North Carolina and was NCAA Champion in 1979, as well as NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player. After his All American selection in 1979 he was selected as the number one draft pick by the Los Angeles Lakers. Over his next 17 seasons in the NBA he would go on to be three-time league MVP, a twelve time All-Star, win five championships, and was named the finals MVP three times. He played his whole career with the Los Angeles Lakers and had his number retired in 1992, the same year he retired.Magic Johnson tested positive for HIV in 1992, and immediately retired from the Los Angeles Lakers, using the opportunity to boost HIV/AIDS awareness. When he was later voted onto the 1992 NBA All-Star Team as a starter, and then onto the Olympic Roster he used the opportunities to inspire HIV-positive individuals. Since he was diagnosed with HIV Magic Johnson has been an advocate for spreading knowledge about safe sex and AIDS/HIV prevention. Since his playing days, Magic Johnson has worked as a NBA coach, written a book on safer sex, run several businesses, worked for NBC as a commentator, has served as a United Nations Messenger of Peace, was main speaker for the United Nations (UN) World AIDS Day Conference in 1999.
