Silento Talent Bio:
Born January 22, 1988 in Atlanta, Georgia, Ricky Lamar Hawk known by the stage name Silento, is an American rapper. He is best known for his hit single “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)”, which was released in January 2015. When the single was released, it tallied over 2.5 million views within the first week. Silento was signed by Capitol Records in April 2015, who then re-released “Watch Me” as a single along with a music video they had filmed. The song climbed up to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, an extremely gratifying accomplishment at the age of just 17. The video has since reached over 74 million views on Youtube, and over 220 million views according to Vevo, making it a sensation that has swept across the nation.Silento started making music as part of a group when he was in 8th grade, as he was transitioning into high school. As a senior in high school, Silento has inspired a wave of fan made dance videos posted all over YouTube, referencing the lyrics in the hit single. The Whip, The Nae Nae, and The Stanky Leg, are the three dance moves that the video gave birth to. He performed at Hot 107.9’s Birthday Bash during the BET Awards with Migos and the cast of Blackish, and also on Good Morning America which he calls “The Moment I made it big”.
Silento switches back and forth between rapping and singing, mixing hip hop with a little bit of R&B. He does not curse in his music because he believes it should be listenable to everybody from all ages and walks of life, which has brought him much success very early in his career. He says his main musical influences include Usher, Future, Ciara, and Mariah Carey. He has an extremely bright future ahead of him, and the public is anxiously awaiting to see what he does next.
