Alex Winston Talent Bio:
Alexandra Leigh Winston is an indie pop rock singer songwriter and multi instrumentalist. Winston was born and raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She is a self-taught guitarist, songwriter, and pianist. She was also classically trained as an opera singer. When she graduated from high school she decided to pursue a music career. She started playing in bands with her friends in Detroit. Instead of going to college, she moved to New York City in 2010 and she began performing in bands as well as a solo artist. She began working with the Knocks, which are a duo of producers.She released her first EP, The Basement Covers through independent label, Heavy Rock Music. She gained attention with the EP mainly in the UK and she was compared to Kate Bush, Joanna Newsom, and PJ Harvey. In 2010 she released her single “Choice Notes” and in 2011 she released “Locomotive”. Winston later released another EP called Sister Wife. She released it in 2011. In the same year she signed with Island records and re-released her EP the Sister Wife as well as remixes. Her debut album King Con was released Through V2 Cooperative Music which is a Universal imprint. Her debut album was produced by Charlie Hugall, Bjorn Yttling, and The Knocks.
Her single “Choice Notes” was used for European and UK advertisement for the Hyundai ix 20 and in an ad for the store TJ Maxx. Her single “Velvet Elvis” was used as the background music to the Google Chrome advert entitled Julia Dean. Winston has performed in the US and in Europe and she supported Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Gotye. She has also performed at UK festivals including VFest, Bestival, and The Underage Festival.
