Formed in 2010 with members originating from Portland, Oregon and Auckland, New Zealand, Unknown Mortal Orchestra is an American / New Zealand rock band that is currently signed to Jagjaguwar. The band consists of Ruban Nielson (vocals, guitar), Riley Geare (drums), and Jake Portrait (bass). They have a very unique and stylistic sound, while they specialize in a variety of musical genres such as rock, psychedelic rock, garage rock, R&B, and lo-fi. They have cultivated a large group of very loyal fans and followers including over 150 thousand likes on their Facebook page, over 60 thousand followers on their Twitter feed, over 13 thousand subscribers to their YouTube channel, and their music videos have been viewed millions of times online, including the video for their song “Multi-Love” which has individually racked up over 1.5 million views on YouTube. In January of 2016 it was announced that they were one of the acts selected to play at the very popular and massive music festival Coachella 2016 in Southern California.Since first coming on to the music scene in 2010, Unknown Mortal Orchestra has released a total of 3 full length studio albums which have been very well received amongst fans and critics alike. Their second album titled “II” reached #2 on the US Heat Album Chart, #26 on the US Indie Album Chart, and #38 on the New Zealand Album Chart, while their third album “Multi-Love” reached #7 on the US Indie Album Chart, #12 on the US Rock Album Chart, and #14 on the New Zealand Album Chart. They are a group to watch out for in the very near future, as their popularity and fan base continues to grow rapidly larger by the day. It seems the future is very bright for Unknown Mortal Orchestra, as they are quickly becoming a household name in the music industry.
