Thomas Rhett Talent Bio:
Thomas Rhett Akins Jr. is an American country music singer, born March 30th 1990 to a father that was already established in country music, Rhett Akins. His father undoubtedly had a huge influence on him, and exposed him to a wide array of music that he otherwise might not have ever experienced. He started playing the drums in middle school, and moved on to play drums for his father, Rhett Akins, on stage. In high school, Thomas Rhett put together a band called The High Heeled Flip Flops; the band never had a specific genre in mind. Rhett attended college at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. He was a member of the band Tau Phi and performed at frat parties, this being his first real taste of a music career. Rhett wasn’t ever strongly pursuing a musical career until he stumbled upon a songwriting deal, where he wrote for Jason Aldean on his 2010 album “My Kinda Party” with the song “I Ain’t Ready to Quit”. He auditioned for at least seven record companies and every one was interested in signing the young musician, but the following year he signed a contract with Big Machine Records’ Valory Music Group division. His debut single was released in the beginning of 2012, “Something to Do with My Hands”, and later that year released “Beer with Jesus”, both made Top 30 on the Hot Country Songs. Rhett’s debut album was titled “It Goes Like This” and was released in October 2012. His fourth single “Get Me Some of That” turned out to be a number one single in early 2014. In the midst of his own musical ventures, he managed to find time to provided guest vocals along with Justin Moore on Brantley Gilbert’s “Small Town Throwdown”. He spent time co-writing in 2013 with Jason Aldean’s “1994”, Lee Brice’s “Parking Lot Party”, and Florida Georgia Line’s “Round Here”. Between Thomas Rhett and his father, Rhett Akins, the two made it to the Top 10 of the Country Airplay chart in 2013. “It Goes Like This” was one of their most popular songs. Thomas Rhett has been described as a solid country sort of guy with a distinct urban sound that makes him appealing to a large crowd, much larger than just the typical country music crowd. He mixes hard-rock chants and hip-hop phrasing into songs that are otherwise country, a strange combination that makes him that more interesting.
