The Airborne Toxic Event Talent Bio:

The Airbone Toxic Event is an indie rock band originating from Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. The band includes Mikel Jollett who is the lead vocalist. He also plays the guitar and keyboards. Adrian Rodriguez who plays the electric bass and does the background vocals. Steven Chen, who plays the guitar and keyboards. Daren Taylor plays the drums and last but not least, Anna Bulbrook. She plays the viola, keyboard, tambourine, and does background vocals. In 2008 they released their debut self-titled album and a follow up album called All at Once in 2011. The band is named after a section in Don Delillo’s novel White Noise.

Before music, Jollett was an essayist and writer. He began writing songs at a down point in his life in 2006. He was going through a break up, his mother was diagnosed with cancer, and he was diagnosed with genetic autoimmune disease. He later met Taylor, through a mutual friend in Silver Lake, California. In the summer they would rehearsed the songs that Jollett wrote, including early versions of “Wishing Well”, “Missy”, and “Innocence”. These songs would be featured on their debut album. Bulbrook joined the group when Jollett ran into her at an outdoor Mexican restaurant in Silver Lake. She just moved to Los Angeles from New York, and she trained in orchestral and chamber music. Jollet asked her to attend one of his rehearsals with Taylor. Harmon joined the grouped when Jollet asked him to be a part of the band because he was impressed by performances of Harmon’s, and his background in rock and jazz.

In 2006 The Airborne Toxic Event performed their first show at Echo in Echo Park. Rolling Stone named the group to be one of the “Top 25 Bands on Myspace” and L.A. Weekly named the group as one of the top three bands in Los Angeles. In 2008 they released their self-titled, full length album and it received favorable reviews in the Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, and Entertainment Weekly. They have released several albums such as Such Hot Blood in 2013 and Dope Machines in 2014.
