Sam Smith Talent Bio:

Sam Smith is an English singer and songwriter who was born Samuel Frederick Smith on May 19th, 1992. He was born in London, England to parents Kate Cassidy and Frederick Smith. Smith starred in the Youth Music Theatre U.K. in the 2007 production of “Oh! Carol”. He spent time in different jazz bands throughout his youth, and studied singing and songwriting under jazz vocalist and pianist Joanna Eden. He was a member of the Bishops Stortford Musical Theatre Society while attending St. Mary’s Catholic School in Bishop’s Stortford, and was a part of the successful choir Cantate Youth Choir. Smith’s music career skyrocketed October 2012 when he was featured in the Disclosure song, “Latch”, which reached number eleven on the U.K. Singles Chart shortly after the track was released. In February 2013, his first single was officially released from his debut album, “Lay Me Down”. He was also featured on Naughty Boy’s single, “La La La”, which was release in May 2013 and climbed to number one on the U.K. Singles Chart. Smith released an EP that included tracks “Safe With Me” and “Nirvana”in 2013, as well as releasing another collaboration track with Disclosure, Nile Rodgers, and Jimmy Napes titled “Together”. The second single off of his debut album was titled “Money on My Mind”, was released in February 2014, and he announced that his debut studio album called “In The Lonely Hour” would come out in May 2014 curtesy of Capital Records. The album made number one on the U.K. Album Chart and number two on the Billboard 200 in the U.S and went on to become the second biggest selling album of 2014, almost beating Taylor Swift’s “1989” album for the number one spot. Smith went on his first American tour in the spring of 2014, armed with a list of new material to perform. The track “Latch” still produced the most hype for him, performing on television shows like Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Saturday Night Live alongside his buddies, Disclosure.
