Ride Talent Bio:
A British rock group consisting of guitarist/vocalist Andy Bell, vocalist/guitarist Mark Gardener, bassist Stephan Queralt, and drummer Laurence “Loz” Colbert was formed in their teenage years in 1988. The group was formed in Oxfordshire, England and they started out performing at parties and clubs. Their style was dubbed ‘shoegazing’ by the British press because the band stared down at the stage when they performed. After going through a series of names, the band finally settled on Ride before performing at a college Christmas party. Soon after they recorded a demo tape including the tracks “Chelsea girl” and “Drive Blind”. The demo got into the right hands and they were soon signed to Creation Records in 1989.Ride released their self-titled EP later that year. British critics raved about the debut album, however ‘Play’ the second EP gained much more success. The EP entered at top 40 on the British charts. ‘Nowhere’, the group’s first album released at the end of the year peaking at #14 in England becoming a hit for the band. Ride’s third EP released in 1991 and became a top 20 hit in the U.K. In spring 1992 ‘Going Blank Again’, the bands second album was successfully received due to the hit single “Leave them all Behind”; the single immediately entered the charts at top 10.
Ride started its dissolution in 1995 during the recording of their album “Tarantula”. Gardener started to lead the band in a more contemporary direction, completely diverting from their shoegazing background. By the time “Tarantula” appeared on the scene they had already began to self-destruct. Gardener left during the recording of Tarantula and the band announced their breakup right before the release of the album in 1996. After a long hiatus in 2014 the band announced that they would reuniting and booked a series of gigs, including appearing in Barcelona for the Primavera Sound Festival. Click for Ride Event Booking.
