Labrinth Talent Bio:

Labrinth is an English singer-songwriter as well as a record producer with a passion for different instruments. He was born Timothy Lee McKenzie on January 4th 1989 and raised mainly in Hackney, London, England. He belongs to a very large musically involved family where American gospel music was a big part of his life growing up. He and his eight siblings even formed a band called Mac 9 when they were only kids. He began pursuing music when he was still in school and was introduced to music studios and creating music at age fifteen by his older brother, Mac 1, who is also a producer. His career began when he caught the attention of Guy Moot from EMI Music Publishing after he produced a track titled “Dead End” for the British recording artist Master Shortie for his album A.D.H.D in 2009. Moot offered Labrinth a publishing deal with his company. He spent time as a mentor for the Urban Development Vocal Collective with his sister in 2010 and 2011. Labrinth co-wrote and produced a track called “Pass Out” for British rapper Tinie Tempah which hit number one on the UK Singles Chart, number seventy in Australia and number six on the Irish Singles Chart. The song was also awarded Best British Single at the 2011 BRIT Awards and Best Contemporary Song at the 2011 Ivor Novello Awards, as well as reaching platinum status. The second single he produced with Tempah debuted at number two in the U.K. and got recognition in Scotland and Ireland too. In 2010, Labrinth’s success led him to be signed to Simon Cowell’s record label Syco Records, which made him the first in years to be signed to the label without being found by reality television. He released his first single “Let the Sun Shine” and the track debuted at number three on U.K. charts. While recording his first studio album, Labrinth still found the time to assist other artist with their music, such as his production of Yasmin’s single “Finish Line” and work with Ms. Dynamite on her single “Neva Soft”. His second single titled “Earthquake” was released in 2011 and featured Tinie Tempah, the single made it to number two on the U.K. charts and made it the second highest selling number-two in the U.K. The third single was released in 2012 and was titled “Last Time” as a part of a four-track EP and featured remixes by Knife Party and Gareth Emery. Labrinth is currently working on his second album titled “Take Me to the Truth” with the help of Ed Sheeran. He continues to collaborate with Tinie Tempah and produce music for other artists.
