Kandi Burruss Talent Bio:
Kandi Leniece Burruss-Tucker is an American actress, producer, Grammy award winning singer-songwriter, and a reality TV star on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. She was apart of the hit group Xscape. She is the first African American woman to win the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers’ Songwriter of the Year award in the year of 2000. She is also known for writing TLC’s smash single “No Scrubs”. The song won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song in 2000.Buruss was born in College Park, Georgia. She attended Tri-Cities High School in East Point Georgia graduating in 1994. Her very first television appearance was on BET’s Teen Summit when she was only 15. She later joined 90’s hit group Xscape which she sung lead on smash hits “My Little Secret”, “Just Kickin It”, and “Who Can I Run To” and wrote their early smash hits”Feels So Good” and “Can’t Hang”. When Xscape disbanded Kandi started focusing primarily on songwriting and production. Alongside Tameka “Tiny” Cottle they wrote No. 1 “No Scrubs” for TLC. Buruss won Songwriter of the Year at the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. She has written other hits such as Destiny’s Child “Bills, Bills, Bills”, and Pink’s debut single “There You Go”. She has written for artists such as Mariah Carey, N’Sync, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Boys II Men, Faith Evans, Blu Cantrell, and Monica Arnold.
In 2009 Burruss teamed up with female rapper Rasheeda from Atlanta and they formed a group called duo Peach Candy. Same year it was announced by Entertainment Weekly Kandy would replace DeShawn Snow in the second season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Buruss released her second album, titled "B.L.O.G." and her debut EP, the Fly Above EP. In December of 2009, she signed a deal with Asylum Records.
Kandi has been featured on several TV series such as Single Ladies, Thicker Than Water: The Tankards, Chef Roblé & Co., and Let's Stay Together.
