Digital Underground Talent Bio:
While hip-hop was consumed by the hardcore, noisy political rap of Public Enemy and the gansta rap of N.W.A., Digital Underground snuck out of Oakland their bizarre, funky homage to Parliament Funkadelic.
Digital Underground remained true to Clinton`s original sensibility, celebrating sex as something squishy, giggly, and mutually pleasurable, and using comedy, with Shock-G (a.k.a. Humpty Hump) as the lascivious ringleader. Along with Chopmaster J, Shock-G formed Digital Underground in 1987.
In 1989, the single "Doowutchyalike" was released and immediately became an underground hit. Their debut album, Sex Packets, was released in the spring of 1990 and "The Humpty Dance" climbed all the way to number 11 on the pop charts and peaking at number 9 on the R&B charts. It went platinum by the end of the year. In early 1991, Digital Underground released This is an EP Release, their first recording to feature Tupac Shakur.
The EP went gold and set the stage for their second album, Sons of the P, which also went gold. The later releases of Digital Underground received nowhere near the embrace that their earlier releases received, but they remain one of the most important hip-hop groups to have ever existed.
