Benzino Talent Bio:
Raymond Scott best known as Benzino is a rapper, hip hop media executive, record producer, and reality TV star on VH1’s hit reality series Love and Hip Hop Atlanta. He was born in Boston Massachusetts. He is the principal of hip hop magazine The Source with his longtime friend David Mays. The magazine was launched in 1988 as a single sheet newsletter out of May’s dorm room when he attended Harvard University. In 2001 Benzino was added to The Source’s masthead and was made co-owner. Benzino became part of the group Made Men that he founded. He then pursued a solo career as a rapper. He signed with Motown and released his debut solo album called the Benzino Project. The album featured artists such as P. Diddy, Bobby Brown, Snoop Dogg, and Teddy Riley.Benzino’s had huge feud with Eminem in the year of 2000, which was the talk everywhere. He released a diss record towards the rapper called “Pull Up Your Skirt”. The Source published articles against Eminem and included pull out posters of Benzino holding Eminem’s severed head. Eminem responded with two songs called “The Sauce” and “Nail in the Coffin”. Benzino retaliated with his song called “Die Another Day”. The feud continued to escalate and Eminem got to the point where he sued The Source for copyright infringement and defamation of character.
In 2002 Benzino released his album Redemption that featured his smash hit “Rock the Party” under Elektra Records. He later parted ways with Elektra Records. In 2005 he released his third album Nemesis independently on ZNO Records. Mays was the co-executive producer. The album featured artists such as Scott Storch, Lil Jon, and 2pac. He later released his fourth album The Antidote to try and re-establish his rap career. He also returned to the media and him and Mays established the tabloid Hip Hop Weekly.
